New Delhi. The Asian Cricket Counsel (ACC) announced the postponement of the Women’s Emerging Team Asia Cup tournament starting on 6 June due to weather conditions and public health concerns in the host country Sri Lanka. The decision to postpone the tournament was taken after discussion on a letter received from Sri Lanka Cricket Board Chairman Shammi Silva.

He wrote a letter to ACC chief Mohsin Raza Naqvi demanding the postponement of this tournament. The ACC said in a statement that Silva cited health concerns due to adverse weather conditions in Sri Lanka and the spread of chikungunya in the region. He said that the continental organization understands the importance of promoting women’s cricket and emerging talent in the field.

He said, “ACC is committed to young women cricketers to enhance skills and provide opportunities to compete at the highest level. We understand the strategic importance of this tournament in shaping the future of women’s cricket in Asia and will work diligently to re -organize this tournament as soon as possible. ,

Naqvi said that ACC will announce new dates of the tournament when the time comes. A reliable source close to the ACC also said that there is a serious doubt about the men’s Asia Cup T20 tournament in September due to tension between Pakistan and India recently. The source said, “I don’t think there will be the Asia Cup because it will be difficult for the Cricket Board of India (BCCI) to take approval from its government to invite the Pakistan team with hosting this tournament.”
