What if Mumbai and Punjab’s IPL qualifier 2 matches were washed away in rain

Highlights

  • The important match between Punjab and Mumbai will be in Ahmedabad.
  • Punjab Kings will reach the finals when the match is canceled due to rain.
  • A 120 -minute extra time has been added for the playoff matches.

New Delhi. The very important match of the Indian Premier League 2025 is to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The second qualifier match between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians is to be played. The winning team here will play against Royal Challengers Bangalore to win the title in the final. Punjab Kings will try to reach the finals for the first time since 2014, while Mumbai Indians will be eyeing the sixth IPL title. The big question is that when the reserve day is not kept for the match, which team will go ahead when the competition is washed away from the rain.

The playoff started at Mullanpur Stadium in Mohali with Qualifier 1 (PBKS VS RCB) and Eliminator 1. After this, two most important matches from the tournament are to be played in qualifier 2 and finals in Ahmedabad. The final match of the first IPL 2025 was to be held at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata but it has been shifted to Ahmedabad. The tournament was postponed due to increasing military tension between India and Pakistan and a new schedule was released with changes in playoff sites.

How will the weather be in qualifier -2

The good news is that according to the weather forecast, the chances of rain are less. According to Weather.com, only 24 percent rainfall is expected. If the match is canceled due to rain, then after the end of the league stage matches, the team living in the points table will move forward. In this situation, Shreyas Iyer’s Punjab Kings, who stepped into the playoffs while on top with 19 points, will reach the final.

Extra time arrangement for delay of rain

If the game has to be stopped due to rain, then the BCCI and the IPL Governing Council have added an hour extra time to the conditions of the game, so that teams can get more time to complete the match. The BCCI’s statement said, “Like the playoffs, one hour extra time will be added in the terms of the game for the remaining matches of the league stage, which will start from Tuesday, May 20.”

The terms of updated sports also include 120 minutes to resume the match. Claus 13.7.3, which addresses the additional time of IPL game terms, states: “Where the game is delayed or for some reason the game is suspended, then the playoff matches will have an extra time of up to one hundred and twenty minutes for the playoff matches.”

“If it is necessary to use extra time, it will be taken in the following order. In the case of delay or blockage, one hundred and twenty minutes of extra time will be used for playoff matches, then the allot time for the time-out and then the innings change gap (if applicable). After the match, the change period for the super over (maximum 10 minutes) will not be taken into consideration when using any available additional time.”
