New Delhi. The last seven-eight days have been surprising for Indian cricket. The veterans have retired from the Test between IPL 2025. It was announced by captain Rohit Sharma and then Virat Kohli. All this is happening when the Indian selectors are going to choose the team of England tour. It is believed that coach Gautam Gambhir wanted new faces in the team, which forced Rohit and Kohli to retire.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have now retired from two format tests and T20I. Now his focus will be on ODI cricket. The goal of both can now be to play ODI World Cup which will be in 2027. However, it will not be easy. Former captain veteran Sunil Gavaskar believes that it will depend on the selection committee whether he includes Rohit and Kohli in his plan for the next World Cup.
Virat Kohli wanted to score 4-5 centuries in England, told the whole plan, had to start with India A, what happened suddenly, coach shocked
Sunil Gavaskar, one of the world’s great openers, said in a conversation with India Today, ‘He (Rohit and Kohli) have been a big player of this format. Nevertheless, the selection committee must be planning about the 2027 World Cup. She will see if she will be able to stay in the team for the 2027 World Cup? Will they be able to contribute till now? If the selection committee thinks that the answer is yes, then both of them will be in the team.
However, Gavaskar has little hope that Virat and Rohit will play the next World Cup. He said, ‘I don’t think they will play. I am saying this with full honesty. But who knows, if they come in a spectacular form next year or after, then even God cannot remove them. The next World Cup of ODI format is to be in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
