New Delhi. Shreyas Iyer was in great form for India at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and continued his performance for Punjab Kings in the recently concluded Indian Premier League’s 2025 session. Mumbai’s right -handed batsman, who scored a total of 604 runs in 17 matches for Punjab Kings, who scored India’s highest run at three places in Pakistan from 19 February to 19 March and the ICC event played in Dubai.
Apart from his excellent batting, Iyer also made headlines for his leadership and after 2014, Punjab Kings were brought to their first IPL final. Unfortunately Iyer failed to win his second direct IPL title as captain, but he performed enough to draw attention and according to a report by the Indian Express on Saturday (June 7), he has now officially joined India’s white-ball captaincy race.
Aiyar, who has played 14 Tests, 70 ODIs and 51 T20 matches so far, played the last Test match for India in February 2024 and his last T20 match was against Australia in December 2023. Iyer, who has won the IPL 2024 title to Kolkata Knight Riders last year, has made his name as captain in domestic cricket but he never got a chance to captain the Indian Mens team in any format of the game.
