New Delhi. Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from Test cricket. He announced this through his Insta Story. Rohit Sharma will continue to play in ODI cricket. Perhaps few players are able to do what Rohit has given to India in the last few years. Rohit may never win the World Test Championship title, but no one will forget his contribution to Test cricket.
Rohit Sharma played 67 Test matches for India in Test cricket. During this, he scored 4301 runs at an average of 40.57 with the help of 12 centuries and 18 half -centuries. Rohit captained India in the final of the World Test Championship against Australia. Apart from the previous series at the home ground against New Zealand and the Boarder-Gavaskar series against Australia, his performance as captain was poor.
India will have a new Test captain for the five -Test series in England, whose potential candidates may be Jasprit Bumrah, Lokesh Rahul, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant. Rohit was originally selected to make his Test debut in the Nagpur Test against South Africa in 2010, but he was hurt a few moments before the toss. Rohit started his Test career as a middle order batter.
He was selected for the Test series in 2013 against the West Indies. He took almost 3 years to play in the Kolkata Test. He scored a century in his debut.
