PCB Sacks Waqar Younis and Misbah Ul Haq: PCB finished the contracts of Waqar, Misbah, Shoaib, Sakalain and Sarfaraz

New Delhi. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has abolished the contracts of the top cricketers Waqar Younis, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shoaib Malik, Saklain Mushtaq and Sarfaraz Ahmed. These experienced players were included as mentors of domestic teams. The decision to end their contracts has been taken due to poor results and increasing economic crisis on the cricket board.

In August last year, PCB appointed these cricketers as mentors of regional and departmental teams. By doing this, the board’s idea was that the atmosphere of domestic cricket could be improved. The PCB did this keeping both men and women in mind. PCB concluded that the efforts of former cricketers did not give as expected results. Failure on the global platform of the national team is often considered the result of poor domestic structure.

Let us tell you that PCB was paying about five million Pakistani rupees to each mentor. This is equal to about 18,000 US $. According to www.telencomasia.net, a source close to PCB said, “The chairman has informed the mentors that their services are no longer needed because the result was expected from them that it could not be achieved.”

The source further said, “Large amount also has its own effect, with fear that the International Cricket Council’s annual funding PCB may be reduced. It is worried that the television rights of Pakistan’s international matches can be less bid in the next circle 2028 to 2032, which further limits the financial capacity of the board.”

According to reports, the financial position of the board has forced PCB to end contracts of several high-level roles. These five stars were tasked to enhance talent domestically, but these experienced players failed to repeat the success of their game career. However, PCB had allowed all five mentors to continue their media assignments – such decisions that came under more investigation, especially when mentors made extra income from television contract. Critics argued that such flexibility stains the limits of accountability and weakens the effectiveness of the mentorship program.

However, two out of five dismissed mentors, Misbah-ul-Haq and Sarfaraz Ahmed can continue to work in different roles with PCB. At present, there is talk of Misbah being appointed as the head coach of the Red-Ball cricket team. At the same time, Sarfaraz can also be engaged in some work of him.
