New Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane, after ending his campaign with a big defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, said that his defending champion team failed to play well as a unit in the current season.
The team of the last runner -up Sunrisers reached the sixth position with 13 points in 14 matches by winning the match between these two teams, which was out before the playoff race by 110 runs. The team of Knight Riders is at eighth position in 14 matches with 12 points.

Rahane told reporters after the match, ‘I think the current session was full of ups and downs for us. We had opportunities and I had earlier said that we did not play well as a unit during those matches.
He said, ‘This format is like this, you know. If you win a close match, they create a difference. Kings XI Punjab match, match against Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings match, I think they could have been slightly different.

Knight Riders lost by four runs against Supergiants while Super Kings defeated the team by two wickets in a match. In a match against Punjab Kings, the team of Knight Riders chased the target of 112 runs and was reduced to just 95 runs while one match was rainy.
Rahane, however, hoped that his players would take lessons from the matches this year and the team will return to stronger next year.

Rahane said in the context of the team’s batting, ‘Where we were a little weak, it was batting. As a batting unit we could not perform well collectively. You pressurize yourself and I think most batsmen had to prove how good I am and it is completely natural.
