Former England captain Kevin Pietersen on Saturday called opener Aiden Markram’s century played against Australia in the World Test Championship final as the “best innings” played by a South African batsman in Test matches. Markram’s innings of 136 off 207 balls won South Africa by five wickets over Australia, leading the Protiaz to win the ICC Trophy after a 27 -year -long wait.
Peterson further said, “He (Ryan) lost Ryan quickly. It is also difficult to tell what kind of pressure he was. Aiden is a big match player. The way he handled his ground firmly. It was worth seeing. His presence, the way he dominated his place while adamant on his sports plan, was fantastic.”
Former bowler Stan said that Lord’s crowd was in favor of South Africa and it was very important. “I felt that support in Lord’s – especially English fans – was in favor of South Africa. Perhaps it was a little relation with Ashes rivalry, but that support helped.”
