For Indian batsman Karun Nair, the series of big scores in domestic cricket has been associated with the biggest challenge of his career for some time, but this right -handed batsman termed the end of ‘Year’ 2022 ‘as the most difficult and dark time of his career. Nair’s journey of return to the Indian Test team after eight years is a proof of his passion and determination.
In an interview given to former veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, this 33 -year -old batsman said, “In the kind of incidents that happened to me, I would say that the end of 2022 was quite dark. It was a very emotional phase for me. I think it was the most difficult time for me. More difficult than 2018, the most difficult period. ”
Apart from Virender Sehwag in Test cricket, Nair, who scored the only triple century of India, is now on the threshold of a brilliant comeback. There is a strong possibility that he will be part of India’s XI for the first Test against England in Leeds on Friday.
Nair has emerged as stronger than before, but he would not want to go back in the time when he was often surprised as to why he was dropped from the team only after a few matches despite scoring a memorable triple century after a Test debut against England in 2016. He said, “No. If I honestly, I do not want to stay at the place where I was a few years ago. ”
He said, “I think at least I am very grateful at this time. I have gone beyond that era of complaining. I am living my life and doing what I like. ”
Nair said, “I am very grateful to all those who have been part of my journey in at least the last two-three years. I have learned to give importance to things. I have learned to give importance to every moment. ”
The Indian team was shocked to be out without any clarification after a brilliant debut in Test cricket for Nair. He said, “To be honest, I could not understand what was happening.” After scoring 300 runs in Chennai, there was a series against Australia and then the team was to play against Sri Lanka in 2017. “He said,” I was not even a part of that team (Sri Lanka series). I could not understand what was happening. Then I had to go back to domestic cricket. ”
Nair feels that he could have secured his place in the Indian team with a big score in the Test series against Australia. He said, “I did not know what was happening.” I just knew that my name was not in it. I could not understand how it was not. ”
He said, “When I look back and think that I did not get much opportunities. However, the other side of this is that in four innings against Australia, I could not convert a good start into a big score. He said, “If I had scored a big score in two of them, I might have confirmed my place in the team. ,
