New Delhi. For the last few days, there has been a stir in the cricket world. Indian team star batsman Virat Kohli suddenly spread sensation by retiring from Test cricket. Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has claimed that Virat Kohli did not get the support from the BCCI and the selectors that he expected. For this reason, he decided to retire from Test cricket.

Virat, who played 123 Test matches for India, scored 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85. On May 12, he wrote on Instagram that he is retiring from Test cricket. His decision came five days after India captain Rohit Sharma retired from Test cricket. Kaif said, “I think he wanted to continue to play in this format. There must have been some conversation with the BCCI, the selectors must have told him that his form in the last 5-6 years, he would have told him that there is no place in his team now. However, we will never know what happened, it is very difficult to guess what happened behind the curtain.”

He further said, “But looking at the last minute decision and the way he came out playing the Ranji Trophy, I think he wanted to return to the next Test. Given the events in the last few weeks, he did not get the support from the BCCI and the selectors that he expected.”

In recent times, Kohli was struggling to score in the Test continuously. He scored 190 runs in nine innings in the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. India had lost the series 3–1 even after winning the first match. Out of those 190 runs, 100 runs remained unbeaten in the second innings in Parth. Kaif felt that Kohli’s Test career was rapidly ending in a hurry to score runs in Australia.

He added, “He appeared in a hurry to score runs in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. In Test cricket you have to stay out for hours and work hard, which he has done before. Trying to drive the ball continuously, I felt that he was a little less of patience. Perhaps he was thinking ‘I was thinking on the last stage of my career, I am looking for a different level of career, before the end of his career Was, he used to leave the balls, take his time, tired the bowlers and then drop them down but I did not see it from him in Australia. “
