The Mayank Yadav, which was being described as the biggest strength of Lucknow Supergiants (LSG), proved to be the biggest weakness of the team against Punjab Kings. 150 km Pacer Mayank Yadav, who bowled at an hourly speed, proved to be the most expensive bowler of LSG against Punjab Kings. Punjab Kings coach Ricky Ponting revealed after the match that captain Shreyas Iyer’s decision to send Josh English to number three to face Mayank Yadav.
Josh English batted in the middle order most of the time in IPL 2025. He was sent to number three against Lucknow. Josh English targeted Mayank during his innings and scored 30 runs in 14 balls. Punjab won the match by 37 runs. Mayank Yadav gave 60 runs in his spell of 4 overs in this match and could not take a single wicket.
Ricky Ponting said after the match, ‘It was the captain’s decision to send English to number three. Given the pitch here and the invasion of the opposing team, he believed that if the wicket falls quickly, then it would be right to send English. He said, ‘We were assuming that Mayank would bowl initially. If you look at his bowling, then he bowls a lot of short pitch and English specializes in playing such balls. We also saw this in this match. His bridge shot was amazing.

On the other hand, Ayush Badoni, batter of Lucknow Supergiants, admitted that losing three wickets in the powerplay proved to be expensive in defeat to Punjab Kings. Lucknow, chasing the target of 237 runs, lost the wickets of Mitchell Marsh, Niklas Puran and Aiden Markram quickly. After this, Ayush scored 74 runs in 40 balls. He said after the match, ‘I think we could have stopped 10-15 runs, but the target could still be achieved. The wicket was very good.
