IPL 2025 Mi Vs PBKS: Riklton’s statement after Mumbai Indians lost to Punjab Kings

Mumbai Indians opener Ryan Ricelton admitted that a seven -wicket defeat against Punjab Kings was a “wake up call”. Even after this defeat, he is confident that the five -time champion team can win the IPL eliminator. With Mumbai defeat in the last league match, he missed the opportunity to make a place in the top two on Monday. This defeat means that now Mumbai team will face Gujarat Titans or Royal Challengers Bangalore in Eliminator on Thursday. This decision will be taken after the match between RCB and Lucknow.

Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and asked Mumbai to bat first. Thanks to Suryakumar Yadav’s fifty, the team scored 184 for 7 wickets. Punjab Kings achieved this goal with nine balls. The wicketkeeper-batsman said that Mumbai needs to improve in some areas before knockout.

Riklton said after the match, “They defeated us… So it was a wake up call in a way. It is not the end of the world. Honestly, the team is clicking very well. We just need to fix one or two things in bat, ball and fielding. We have a better team to win the eliminator. The players will surely pay attention to the things where we will do the same and I am sure that we will have to improve.”

Considering the protest against PBKS, the South African player said that his team had scored 20 runs. “We were clearly about 20 runs. Still we had no problem in batting first. We know that if we can set a good platform and score between 200 to 220, then we are usually in a strong position with our bowling.

He further said, “Earlier we have defended the score of 200 well. It was not a situation that we were afraid. I think we lost the wicket at the wrong time and it prevented us from achieving extra 20 runs that we were expecting.”
