IND Vs Eng 1st Test: Questions arising on excluding Kuldeep Yadav from the playing XI.
New Delhi. When the first Test started between India and England on Friday, Kuldeep Yadav did not get a place in the playing XI. Former wicketkeeper-baater Farooq Engineer expressed surprise at this. He described Kuldeep Yadav as such a ‘trump card’ which should be used in all five matches of the series.
The 87 -year -old veteran said, ‘He is a great bowler. So England batsmen will have difficulty in playing him. So I would feed him in all five matches. The engineer, who played 46 Test matches for India between 1961 and 1975, also supported the new Test captain Shubman Gill.
The stylish wicketkeeper of his time said, “Some people have rejected Shubman saying that he has not scored in England or he cannot score in England due to his technology. But I disagree because he is a great player. Farukh Engineer was particularly impressed by Gill’s captaincy during IPL 2025, in which this opener took the Gujarat Titans to the eliminator. The engineer said, ‘Shubman got this captaincy after IPL. He captained his team very well in the IPL. I felt that he showed restraint and took the right decisions.
