Former fast bowler Jawagal Srinath will make India’s presence in the role of match referee in the World Test Championship final while Nitin Menon will debut in WTC as the fourth umpire.

New Delhi. Even though the Indian team has not reached the World Test Championship (WTC) final, former fast bowler Jawagal Srinath will make India’s presence in the match referee while Nitin Menon will debut in WTC as the fourth umpire. The decision was taken on Friday 23 May. Will be the field umpire in the WTC final to be held on Richard Iingworth of England and Chris Gafane Lord of New Zealand.

The defending champion Australia will take on South Africa to reach the final from 11 to 15 June. England’s Richard Katelboro, who was umpiring in the finals of several important tournaments of the ICC, was appointed as the TV umpire. He was also in the same role in the WTC 2021 final. Menon was a TV umpire in the ICC Men T20 World Cup final in 2021, he has been made the fourth umpire for this match.

Illingworth will create history as a field umpire in the three WTC finals. The Indian team reached the final of the first two WTC cycles but both could not cross the challenge of New Zealand and Australia respectively. ICC Chairman Jai Shah appreciated the experience and merit of the appointed officers and expressed confidence in his performance.

In a ICC release, Shah said, “We are happy to announce an experienced team of match officials for the ICC World Test Championship Final at Lord’s, which ends the end of a competitive two -year cycle of Test matches played worldwide.”

Jawagal career

Jawagal Srinath has played 67 matches in the Test career and has taken 236 wickets at an average of 30.49, with about 2.86 runs per over, with his best personal figure 13/132. Jawagal Srinath has played 229 matches in his ODI career so far and has taken 315 wickets at an average of 28.09.
