KL Rahul arrives in England, will participate in the practice match before Test series after a blast in IPL
New Delhi.After the T20 in the IPL, now it is now to prove the best in the Tari Test, for which many players reached England before the Test series, while some players are now joining the team. England KL Rahul is fully ready to participate in India A’s second unofficial Test against England Lions from 6 June. It raises a relevant question in front of us – on what number will the star like Rahul be batting? For the upcoming five -match Test series against England, Rahul’s gearing up is a good initiative, but for coach and captain Abhimanyu Ishwaran, it has become a headache to decide where to put him in the playing XI.
In the Test series against England, Rahul will be expected to play the role of opener. Finally, he worked as India’s opener in the absence of Rohit Sharma in some Test matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The former Indian captain has retired from the Test just before the UK tour, so it is almost certain that Rahul will return as an opener, but the problem starts from here. Also, Rahul will not fit the middle order and if he has to show some good games before the England series, then he will have no option but to start the innings.
Ishwaran is the captain of India A and hence he cannot be excluded from the team. Meanwhile, Jaiswal also cannot be excluded as he is India’s first choice opener in the main team. The middle order of India A is already full of star players, which includes players like Karun Nair, Dhruv Jurlel and Sarfaraz Khan. Keeping Rahul anywhere between these three will make his role meaningless. Rahul has made most of his run in Test matches playing as an opener. The wicketkeeper-batsman has scored 2803 runs out of 3257 Test runs as an opener. Playing at 1 and 2, his average is 40.02 and 30.05 and he has scored 7 centuries and 14 half -centuries. Therefore, they become an automatic option to replace Rohit as an opener. But if they want some game time through India A series, then they will have to start the innings. There will be no benefit from keeping them in the middle order – neither for India A nor for Rahul himself.
