New Delhi: India has given another shock to Pakistan. If sources are to be believed, Team India will not play the Asia Cup. In India’s hosting, this year’s Mains Asia Cup, which is held in September this year, has a big question mark, as a report claimed that the Indian cricket team has withdrawn its name from this tournament.
The BCCI has told the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) headed by Pakistan minister Mohsin Naqvi that it is withdrawing its teams from the Women Emerging Team Asia Cup and Mains Asia Cup 2025 in Sri Lanka in June.

Decision in protest against terrorist attack
According to a report by The Indian Express, this decision has been taken after the increasing tension between India and Pakistan. India launched a successful military campaign like Operation Sindoor, targeting Pakistan -occupied Kashmir (PoK) and several terrorist bases in Pakistan in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir last month.
Pakistan Minister Mohsin Naqvi ACC head
The report quoted a BCCI source as saying, “The Indian team cannot play in a tournament, which is organized by the ACC, whose heads are the ministers of Pakistan.” This is the spirit of the country. We have verbally informed the ACC about their return from the upcoming women’s emerging team Asia Cup and our future participation in their events has also been stopped. We are in constant touch with the Government of India.

What is the meaning of India’s removal?
India was to host the Asia Cup this year and it was to be played in the T20 format in view of the next year’s T20 World Cup. The last event was held in 2023, when India had the distinction of becoming champions by defeating Sri Lanka. Since most of the sponsors of the Asia Cup are from India, the tournament may be canceled due to this decision of BCCI. Apart from India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh also played in the tournament.
Asia Cup and Champions Trophy played from hybrid models
The previous edition of the Asia Cup was hosted by Pakistan, but the BCCI refused to send its team across the border, after which the tournament was played in the hybrid model. All matches in India were held in Sri Lanka, including the final. Similarly, the hybrid model was also used in the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year, in which India played all its matches in Dubai.
