Colombo: Sri Lankan all -rounder Angelo Mathews has announced his retirement from Test cricket. Matthews will play the last Test match of his career next month. He announced this on Friday. Sri Lanka has to play a Test series against Bangladesh next month. The first Test of the series will also be Angelo Mathews’s farewell Test match. He will continue to play white-ball cricket for his country.
The final Test match of 37 -year -old Angelo Mathews will be played in Gaul from 17 to 21 June. He said on Friday, ‘The time has come to say goodbye to the most favorite format of the game, international Test cricket! With unforgettable memories…. The first Test match against Bangladesh in June will be my last red-ball match for the country.

Mathews, who is counted among Sri Lanka’s best all -rounders, further said, ‘I am saying goodbye to Test format. I have talked with the selectors. Whenever my country needs me. I will be available for selection for white-ball format. I am sure our Test team is talented, in which many future and present are playing great players. So I think it is the best time to give youth a chance so that they can perform well for our country.
Angelo Mathews made his debut with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Mathews, who debuted in 2009, has played 118 Tests, in which he has scored 8167 runs. Apart from this, there are also 34 wickets. He has so far scored 16 centuries and 45 half -centuries, of which 200 is his best score. Mathews was the captain of all Sri Lanka formats from 2013 to 2017.
