New Delhi. After the retirement of Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma’s Test cricket, now his partner Virat Kohli has also made up his mind to say goodbye to this format. He has told the Indian Cricket Board that he wants to retire from Test cricket. However, now the top officials have requested him to think about this decision.
According to the news of ‘The Indian Express’, former Indian captain Virat Kohli has taken a big decision before the tour of England. According to the information, this legend will no longer be seen playing in the long format of cricket. Sources told the newspaper, “They have made up their minds and informed the board that they are moving beyond Test cricket. The BCCI requested them to reconsider as the important England tour is coming. They have not given any response to this request,”
This decision of Kohli came after Rohit Sharma retired from Test cricket a few days ago. The selectors of India are going to meet the team for the five -Test series to be held next month in England in a few days. It has been reported that Kohli was considering his Test future since the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia earlier this year, when he performed poorly after scoring a century in the first Test.
If Kohli does not change his mind and Rohit is not in the team, then India will have an inexperienced middle order with KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal and will later be Rishabh Pant. Apart from this, the team will not have the guidance of two experienced players. Kohli became the Test captain of India in December 2014 and Rohit in February 2022.
