Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, India could not reach the final of the World Test Championship 2025.
Team India’s Test captaincy can be taken away from Rohit Sharma. The Indian Express report claimed that Team India selectors are not happy with Rohit’s Test performance and captaincy. He believes that Rohit is doing better in ODIs, but due to this, his poor performance and captaincy in the Test cannot be ignored.
After winning the Champions Trophy of ICC to India, BCCI was also going to give Rohit the captaincy for the Test series in England. However, the selectors opposed this at the previous meeting. He said that the poor performance of the red ball format cannot be hidden from the success of white ball.
New captain will be chosen for England series
According to the express report, Team India will choose the new Test captain for the Test series starting in June against England. However, Rohit will be kept as part of the batter squad. It is also being said that BCCI is ready to accept the selectors’ decision.

Rohit Sharma will be made part of Team India on the tour of England as an opening batter.
Rohit will continue to captain in ODIs
His form in red ball cricket is believed to be the major reason for the 38 -year -old Rohit being snatched away from Test captaincy. Also, under his captaincy, the team lost 3–0 against New Zealand at home and the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia by 3–1. Due to these defeats, Team India could not qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
Rohit has expressed his desire to continue captaincy
In March itself, it was told in the express report that BCCI will keep Rohit the captain on the England round. Rohit himself has expressed his desire to continue the captaincy in a podcast with former Australia captain Michael Clarke.
Rohit had said that he is excited to lead the pace attacks of Bumrah, Shami and Siraj in England. However, the Selection Committee recently described the board as its future plan at the meeting at BCCI Headquarters in Mumbai.

Rohit Sharma captained India in 24 Tests. In 12, the team won and lost 9.
Rohit not fit for test captaincy
A BCCI source said, ‘The selectors want a new captain for the tour of England and Rohit is no longer fit for the Test captaincy. Especially his poor form in the red ball did not make him fit for this format. The selectors want to give a young captain responsibility for the new cycle of WTC. The committee has also informed BCCI that Rohit will no longer captain the Test.
Rohit flopped against New Zealand and Australia
Rohit also flopped badly from BAT in the last Test series against New Zealand and Australia. He could score against New Zealand at an average of 15.16 and Australia at an average of 6.20. The selectors have now decided that with this form of Rohit, they cannot be given the responsibility of captaincy.
If the test captaincy is taken away from Rohit, it will also be clear that he can be seated outside the playing-11 due to poor performance in England. In Australia, Rohit did not open in the opening matches. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul performed well in the series by opening.
Rohit could not play the first test. He became a part of the playing-11 of the second Test, but landed in the middle order to bat. India then won the first Test under the captaincy of Jasprit Bumrah, but lost 2 matches under Rohit’s captaincy.

India lost the Test series against Australia after 10 years under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.
Rohit scored in England at an average of 44
Rohit made a Test debut for India in 2013. He could confirm his place in playing-11 during 2021 and also got captaincy in 2022. In 67 Tests for India, he has scored an average of 40.57, but his average falls out of the house to 31.01.
Rohit is an average of 24.38 in Australia and 16.63 in South Africa. However, he has scored at an average of 44.66 in England. While opening, their average is 44.54. He has also scored a century while opening on the last tour.

Rohit Sharma has scored 4301 runs by scoring 12 Test centuries.
Gambhir had said- Rohit will be decided by selectors
Head coach Gautam Gambhir also said on 6 May that the selection committee will decide Rohit’s future. He said at the ‘India at 2047’ summit of ABP News, ‘My job is not to select the team. The coach has the right to select a bus playing-11.
As long as Rohit and Kohli are performing, they will be part of the team. The retirement decision is the player’s personal decision, but the decision to keep the player in the team is in the hands of the selection committee. If you are performing, you can continue to play even at the age of 40. Everyone saw the performance of both senior players in the Champions Trophy, so I do not want to say much on him.
