In the cricket world, there is a race for retirement among these days star players. So far this year, 10 international stars have left some format of cricket. Someone retired from the test to lengthen the ODI career, while someone gave up ODI cricket to focus on T20 career. World cricket is surprised by the retirement of two dhakad players in one day.
Australian all -rounder Glenn Maxwell has announced retirement from ODI to focus on T20 cricket. Maxwell’s form has not been good for some time. His eyes are on good performance in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Maxwell has been the star all -rounder of the Australian team who attacks the opposition team with his off -spin bowling along with the bat.
Two hours after Glenn Maxwell’s retiring from ODI, South African wicketkeeper batsman Henrik Klassen said goodbye to international cricket. 33 -year -old Klassen will no longer be seen playing international cricket for South Africa. He will now play only in league cricket. World cricket is surprised by Maxwell and Klassen’s retirement in one day. In the last 1 month, 5 cricketers have left some format.
Last month i.e. in May, within a week, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced retirement from the Test, shook the cricket fans from inside. Rohit announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 7, while Virat said goodbye to cricket’s longest format on May 12.
Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne announced his retirement from Test cricket on 23 February. 36 -year -old Karunaratne scored 7222 runs in the Test at an average of about 40. In which his highest score is also 244 runs. He also participated in 50 ODIs, scoring 1,316 runs. During his tenure as the captain of Sri Lanka from 2019 to 2023, he led the team in 30 Tests, in which he won 12.
Steve Smith announced his retirement from ODI International cricket after Australia lost 4 wickets in the Champions Trophy semi -finals in Dubai. He will continue to play Test cricket and T20 International. Also, he will keep an eye on participating in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where T20 cricket will begin. Smith said goodbye to ODI on 6 March.
Australian all -rounder Marcus Stoinis announced on 6 February from ODI cricket. The 35 -year -old Stoinis will now focus on T20 cricket and will be available for Australia in this format. He scored 1495 runs in 71 ODIs at an average of 26.69 in 71 ODIs with an unbeaten 146 -run innings against New Zealand in Auckland in 2017. And also took 48 wickets at an average of 43.12.
Former Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews announced on social media on 23 May that he would retire from Test cricket after the first match against Bangladesh in Gaul next month. Mathews made his Test debut against Pakistan in 2009 at the same ground. For more than 15 years, Sri Lankan has been the foundation of cricket. He has performed brilliantly as an all -rounder and a captain.
Bangladesh veteran wicketkeeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim announced his retirement from ODI on 6 March. The 37 -year -old player, who was part of the Bangladesh team in the recently concluded Champions Trophy, informed about his decision on social media. Rajim made his ODI debut about 20 years ago. And played 274 matches in which he scored 7,795 runs at an average of 36.42. Among Bangladeshi players, only Tamim Iqbal has scored more than 8,357 runs.
Bangladesh veteran cricketer Mahmudullah Riyadh announced his retirement from international cricket on 12 March 2025. Mahmudullah had earlier retired from Test cricket in 2021 and T20 in 2024.
